Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday asked the Public Health Engineering Department to ensure maximum participation of Gram Sabhas in the development process of villages.
Khattar, who was presiding over a review meeting of the department here, said the officials should also inform the Gram Sabhas about the funds allocated to the Gram Panchayats for repair and installation of new tubewells.
He said from now, a block-level officer of the department would also attend Gram Sabha meetings, according to an official release. The release quoted Khattar as saying that a system should also be in place to delegate powers of Water Supply and Sewerage Board for financial approval of various development projects. He also directed the department to prepare new schemes under the National Capital Region Planning Board and NABARD so as to utilise maximum funds.
The Chief Minister also directed the department to carry out third-party inspection of all works to be undertaken under the Indira Gandhi Drinking Water Schemes.
